Electrical External Service Engineer

As an Electrical External Service Engineer, you will be part of a team responsible for installing, commissioning, fault finding and servicing our products and systems across the UK. Our engineers work across a wide range of sites, from quarries to chemical processing plants and more. Besides holding relevant electrical qualifications, a positive attitude and the ability to communicate well with customers are essential. The role requires working at height: for example, a recent installation took place on a silo that was 40m tall. This is a physically demanding role that will require climbing sets of ladders. Service engineers will typically be expected to spend time working away from home; this will require overnight stays and potentially long periods of travel during the day.  In return for this commitment, you will be working for a supportive, welcoming company whose employees have a real stake in the success of the business.

Main Duties & Tasks:

  • Install instrumentation on-site to meet company quality standards and good practice.
  • Test, service and maintain equipment on customer sites.
  • Working away from home for up to 4 days at a time.
  • Providing customers with advice on areas where additional equipment may be of use.
  • Completing site visit reports for customer and company records.

Skills/Qualifications:

  • Must hold GCSE qualifications of grade C or above in English and Maths.
  • Must hold relevant electrical qualifications: for example, BTEC HNC in Electrical & Electronic Engineering or C&G 2365, 2330 and 2360.
  • Must have a full UK driving licence.
  • Must be comfortable with working at heights.
  • Previous employment history in an electrical engineering position is essential.
  • Knowledge of ATEX would be advantageous.

Salary and Benefits:

The position offers a competitive salary. After an initial six month probation period, the salary will be reviewed based on the candidate’s performance.  After the first year with the company, the new employee will be eligible for a discretional annual bonus. Employees get 33 days holiday each year inclusive of bank holidays and winter (Christmas) shutdown. A Workplace Pension scheme is also available. Depending on the employee’s performance, additional training and qualifications may be offered on the provision that the employee is expected to complete a minimum term of employment once the course is finished. This will be agreed upon when registering for a course.

Person Specification:

Overview:

The ideal candidate will be a driven, self-motivated person who can work independently and as part of a small team. Full product training will be given, and candidates who have a desire for personal, professional development and an aptitude for learning will excel within the company. Prior technical expertise and relevant electrical qualifications are essential, along with a positive attitude and willingness to learn. The candidate must be confident with working at heights on busy operating sites. They must be able to communicate well both verbally and in writing. They will be fully supported as they settle into the new role and accompanied on all early site visits.

Education requirements:

We are willing to discuss this position with anyone who has achieved at least grade C in Maths and English at GCSE level. Electrical accreditations such as BTEC HNC in Electrical & Electronic Engineering or C&G 2365, 2330 and 2360 are required. Additional qualifications such as a University degree in a relevant field such as Engineering would be considered desirable, but are not essential for this position.

Experience:

Experience in an electrical engineering role is essential for this position. Additional experience with level control equipment or similar technologies would be extremely advantageous as would knowledge of ATEX environments.

Personal traits:

As a family-run business, we have seen fantastic results from our existing team; now we want to add further people who will complement our workforce and bring new ideas to the table. Hardworking, self-motivated and driven people with a passion for meeting and exceeding targets will excel here. This is a perfect opportunity for a person who wants to feel that their actions affect the overall performance of the company.  We aim to foster an environment in which all our team members feel that their voice is heard and that they can make a positive difference. The successful candidate will be working away from the office and will be the front face of the company while on site.
